The Dewey Short Visitor Center is open seven days per week from April 1st to October 31st. The U.S Army Corps of Engineer’s Dewey Short Visitor Center is located 3 miles west of U. S. Hwy 65 on State Hwy 165 at the south end of Table Rock Dam. The center features a 20 minute film entitled, "Taming of the Riviera Blanche". This fantastic film details the construction and purpose of Table Rock Dam. The Visitor Center contains exhibits detailing the natural history of the area and the native Americans who inhabited the Ozark Mountains in prehistoric times.

Table Rock Lake boasts an abundance of bass, crappie, white bass, catfish, and bluegill, and is acclaimed as one of the best bass fishing lakes in this hemisphere.

Its reputation for producing hefty stringers of bass laced with lunkers was earned through an unprecedented management program. A 15-inch length limit and creel limit of six fish linked with an abundant food chain in the lake, is the foundation of this fine program. The result is a resurgence of large numbers of largemouth, Kentucky and smallmouth bass of exceptional size available anytime of the year for the professional and novice angler alike.

MUSICAL HISTORY: Branson's entertainers began performing for audiences in the early 1950s when country legend Red Foley moved to Springfield to host the "Ozark Jubilee." In 1959, the Mabe Brothers began performing twice a week in a converted building down by the Lake Taneycomo waterfront. In 1962, the Presley family began entertaining visitors in nearby Kimberling City. The Presley's built the first theater along Highway 76 "The Strip" in 1967, followed by the Mabe Brothers, now known as the Baldknobbers, who built their theater in 1968.

Branson's reputation came to a height during the early 1990s when the CBS program, "60 Minutes" dubbed the area the Country Music Mecca. Since then, both entertainers and visitors have made Branson one of the top vacation destinations in the country.

SHOPPING: Branson is home to four outlet shopping malls with more than 200 retailers. Visitors can find contemporary clothing, gift items, housewares, designer shoes, luggage and myriad other treasures at reduced prices throughout the year.

Historic downtown Branson is also a shopper and diner's delight. An old-fashioned 5 & 10, several boutiques and specialty stores combined with quaint eateries make the downtown area truly special.

LAKE ACTIVITIES: The Branson/Lakes Area is home to three scenic and flourishing lakes offering fishing, boating, parasailing, jet skiing and swimming. While the lakes all offer great fishing for novice and professional anglers, each has its specialty. Table Rock Lake offers world-class bass fishing. Lake Taneycomo, with its cold waters, offers superb trout fishing. Bull Shoals Lake is also an angler's paradise especially for tournament bass fishing.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: Nestled in the rolling Ozark Mountains, the Branson/Lakes Area is ideal for canoeing, camping, hiking, biking, birdwatching and simply wandering through the hills. The Branson/Lakes Area is dedicated to enhancing its natural environment and preserving its lakes and waterways.
