Location
Brookgreen Gardens was established on a tract of 9,127 acres stretching 3.1 miles from the Atlantic Ocean to the Waccamaw River in Georgetown County, South Carolina. The property has eight distinctive types of land: the beach and dunes, salt marshes, the maritime forest, loblolly pine swamps, long-leaf pine ridges, the river terrace, freshwater cypress-gum swamps, and abandoned rice fields along the river. The beach tract was leased free to the State of South Carolina and has been operated as Huntington Beach State Park since 1960.

The entrance to Brookgreen Gadens is on US Highway 17 at the famous Fighting Stallions created by Anna Hyatt Huntington as a landmark for Brookgreen. It is midway between and 18 miles from Myrtle Beach to the north and Georgetown to the south. Visitors can travel to the area by car, with easy access to Interstate Highways 95 and 20; by commercial plane to the Myrtle Beach Civil Jetport; by private plane to airports at Georgetown, Conway and North Myrtle Beach; and by boat via the Intracoastal Waterway to full-service marinas in Georgetown, Bucksport and Myrtle Beach.
